چکیده
Masonry infill walls are the standard solution to build envelopes and partitions in reinforced concrete buildings southern Europe. In Portugal, masonry appeared sixties, with massive use of frames for residential commercial buildings. Since then until our days infills (cavity walls) have not experienced significant changes, apart from some variations thickness introduction thermal isolation between layers. The construction system remains based on cavity without any connection layers constructed horizontal perforated bricks poor mortars. Their vulnerability under seismic actions is recognized by scientific community proven whenever an earthquake occurs. Nevertheless, they continue be used, because now there was much innovation development attractive solutions implemented new constructions, particularly no clear design detailing guidelines that can contribute higher quality reduced vulnerability. This paper aims advance brick presenting two proposals systems enclosed RC frames. An extensive experimental campaign presented results discussed mechanical properties materials assemblages associated innovative wall systems. data provided this important understand further in-plane out-of-plane tests carried out as well numerical simulations analytical analysis

Retrofit of Un-Reinforced Infill Masonry Walls with FRP
This paper describes an experimental program that deals with retrofitting of infill un-reinforced masonry walls (URM) with Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP). The primary objective of this research is to develop a retrofit strategy that while economical will minimize the influence of the retrofit on the overall performance of structural frames in predominant seismic regions. Allowing some damage to...
متن کاملNew Frp and Adhesive Materials for Strengthening Infill Masonry Structures
ABSTRACT: This paper explores the behavior of infill masonry structures strengthened with a new type of Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) strengthening system with high fracture strain know as PET (Polyethylene Teraphthalate) and a new near-surface mounted (NSM) Carbon fiber strengthening system using a cementitious material as the adhesive as compared to a Glass Fiber (GFRP) strengthening system ...
متن کاملFuzzy Fragility Analysis of Structures with Masonry Infill Walls
In this work fragility analysis of reinforced concrete and steel structures withinfill walls is performed. For this purpose a fuzzy-based fragility assessment framework for evaluating 3D framed structures is proposed taking into account various sources of uncertainty. In particular, randomness on the material properties and on the seismic demand is considered. The proposed framework requires the...
متن کاملModeling of FRP-Strengthened Infill Masonry Structures
This paper presents an analytical approach to describe the behavior and mode of failure of infill masonry structures strengthened with fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) materials. The approach is used to simulate the response of strengthened infill masonry walls under the effect of out-of-plane uniformly distributed pressure simulating wind pressure. The approach includes a finite element analysis...
متن کاملHomogenization of Interlocking Masonry Walls
In a previous publication the authors proposed a continuous model for describing the mechanical behaviour of ‘Running Bond’ masonry walls. Here a different masonry structure is considered. This structure is ‘bi-atomic’ in the sense that its pattern consists in two kind of blocks with different. The homogenization by differential expansions technique is used for obtaining an equivalent Cosserat ...
